FlexCare works with hospitals across the country, however our largest concentration is currently in the Western U.S.

Our travelers work primarily in hospital settings. The size of the hospitals can range from large university teaching facilities to remote community hospitals. You get to decide what kind of facility is right for you.

Why do nurses choose travel opportunities?
Some nurses travel to see different parts of the country, while others travel because they will receive better compensation. It depends on the individual, but most nurses travel for a combination of location, pay, benefits, and professional opportunities.
What are the minimum requirements to become an FlexCare Traveler?
You must have a degree from an accredited healthcare professional program in the United States or Canada and at least one year of recent hospital experience in your specialty area.
How do I become a FlexCare Traveler?
Applying is easy. You can either Contact a FlexCare Recruiter, or simply complete our Online Application form and a FlexCare recruiter will immediately be in contact with you to begin the process of finding the best travel assignment for you.
Do I have to fill out an application, or can I just send my resume?
We need more details than a resume can provide in order to find the perfect assignment for you. Once your FlexCare application is completely filled out we can get you started on your journey.
Do I have to travel with you once I have submitted my application?
No, you are never obligated to work with FlexCare. Your application is only used to qualify you for traveling with FlexCare. If you decide you want to travel with FlexCare, we will use your application to help identify the most suitable opportunities for you.
How long will it take to approve my application and find an assignment?
Application approval is complete once we have completed building your profile, which includes checking references and filling out the skills checklist. This whole process can be done in less than an hour. We will then work with you to identify the best travel assignments. You could begin your first assignment within one week as long as your documentation is in order.
How long are travel assignments?
A travel assignment can range from 4-26 weeks, however the typical length will be 8-13 weeks.
Where can I go?
With FLEXCARE you have the flexibility to travel almost anywhere in the country. We have positions in small towns and large cities, offering you the lifestyle you desire. When you speak with your FLEXCARE Recruiter, you'll be able to specify where you'd like to go and we will put forth our best effort to find you the assignment you want.
Is local travel an option?
FlexCare has nurses working at facilities right in their own area, earning great traveler wages while living at home!
What shifts are available?
We offer shifts ranging from 8, 10 and 12 hours, depending on the facility. Day, Night, and Evening shifts are available.
What happens after I select an assignment I’m interested in?
Your professional profile will be immediately sent to the facility and a telephone interview will be arranged with a nurse manager from the hospital. We will make certain you have all the information you need about the position, facility and area to assure a successful interview and satisfactory placement.
When am I committed to an assignment?
After interviewing with the facility, they will decide if they want to extend an offer to you. At that time, you decide if you would like to accept the assignment. You are never obligated to take an assignment and not taking an assignment will not affect future assignments.
What happens after I accept an assignment?
We will send all of your documentation to the facility, as well as schedule you for any additional testing that may need to be complete (drug tests, background checks, etc.). We will also send you a start-up packet with information on your assignment.
How will FlexCare prepare me for my assignment?
Once you have accepted an assignment, your FlexCare Recruiter will send you confirmation your start date, shift, unit and salary, including details on the facility and orientation schedule. We will send you a package with all the information you will need to start your assignment, including accommodations.
How do I get to my assignments?
FlexCare will provide you with round-trip airfare to and from the assignment or you can drive your own vehicle and receive a mileage reimbursement.
If I'm on assignment and don't like it, do I have to stay?
You are obligated to the facility and FlexCare to complete your assignment. Once an assignment is complete, it is up to you to continue traveling.
Can I be fired by a facility while I'm on assignment?
Facilities are contractually obligated to you, just as you are to them for the duration of the assignment. Only in cases of documented poor behavior, can the facility cancel the contract. FlexCare Recruiters and Account Managers work closely with our Hospital clients to ensure your assignment goes smoothly and prevent most issues.
What happens once my assignment is complete?
If the facility would like to extend your assignment, you can continue with them if you'd like. If you or the facility do not wish to extend your assignment, your FlexCare recruiter will work with you to identify a new assignment that meets your needs.
Where will I live?
We offer free, private housing on all of our assignments. Our team will make sure you receive safe housing in close proximity to the facility. There is no need to pack necessities such as house wares and linens. All accommodations for FlexCare travelers are safe, attractive and fully equipped.
If I don't use the company's housing, will I receive a housing allowance?
You will receive a generous monthly housing subsidy if you arrange for your own housing. The amount varies depending on the location.
What about the licensing requirements for different states?
You need a license for every state in which you work. Each state has different licensing rules and regulations. Visit our Resources page for links to all State Boards of
Nursing. Your FlexCare recruiter will assist you every step of the way to make the process as simple as possible.
Compensation
What will my salary be?
Pay rates depend on your specialty and experience as well as the facility and the location. Your team at FlexCare will work with you to design the most lucrative compensation package based on your needs.
When and how will I be paid?
FlexCare Travelers can have their paycheck directly deposited into their accounts weekly. If you prefer we can mail your check directly to you.
Are cash bonuses paid at any assignments?
Yes, some facilities offer cash bonuses on certain assignments. These bonuses are paid at the end of your assignment. Ask your FlexCare recruiter for more details.
Does FlexCare offer any bonuses if I refer a friend to FlexCare?
Absolutely! Our referral program provides you with a $500 referral bonus for any friends you refer to us that complete a 13-week assignment with FlexCare.
How are my taxes handled?
As your employer, FlexCare withholds your taxes; you are not an independent contractor. At the end of the year, you will receive a W-2 from every state in which you've worked. See your tax planner for specific tax questions.
